Drilling Systems Operation Instructor — Emphion and Cyberbase (NOV)
Course Duration: 40 Hours
Format: Theoretical and Practical, with Operational Simulation
This course trains drilling operators and rig personnel to understand and safely operate NOV Emphion and Cyberbase control systems, both in manual and automatic modes.
Participants learn the fundamentals of drilling, tripping, and pipe handling operations, as well as real-time monitoring of operational parameters and alarm management — ensuring maximum efficiency and safety during rig operations.
Course Objective
Develop theory and simulator-based sessions following NOV technical standards.
Conduct realistic simulation exercises using Emphion and Cyberbase control panels.
Integrate key concepts of automation, control systems, and operational safety.
Supervise hands-on practice in manual and automatic operation modes.
Training Methodology

a) Introduction to Automated Drilling Systems
Overview of Emphion and Cyberbase control systems.
HMI layout, main screens, and key operational parameters.
Safety interlocks and operation modes.
b) Manual and Automatic Operation
Configuration and mode-switching procedures.
Manual operation of drawworks, top drive, mud pumps, and pipe handling systems.
Automatic operations: auto-drilling, slip-to-slip, auto-tripping, and sequence control.
c) Data Monitoring and Alarms
Reading and interpreting WOB, torque, hookload, pressure, and flow.
Alarm handling, acknowledgment, and safe restart procedures.
Real-time monitoring and system diagnostics.
d) Tripping and Pipe Handling Operations
Operational sequencing and equipment synchronization.
Integration of top drive, catwalk, iron roughneck, elevators, and pipe rack systems.
Safety and communication protocols between driller and floor crew.
